Wheel damage is the dominant cause of downtime amongst freight transport. Transporting a damaged vehicle for wheel turning to a workshop is often expensive and uses a lot of resources.

Therefore, Euromaint Rail has developed a portable wheel lathe that can repair a damage at site of the incident.
Repairing wheel damage at trackside prevents costly reloading and downtime. The damaged wheel profile is reset and tested onsite using our mobile turning equipment.
Turning wheels in the field:
- the equipment is mounted on site
- the damaged wheel’s diameter and profile are measured, as well as the wheel damage
- the correct turning program is selected. The lathe is programmed for the most common wheel profiles
- turning is carried out
- the wheel's profile and diameter are measured and documented
- the lathe unit is unmounted and moved to the other wheel, which is turned to the same diameter and profile
If it is necessary/requested a brake inspection is carried out after the turning operation to verify brake status and to ensure that it is not a brake fault that caused the wheel damage.
Turning in the field means large savings
Repairing wheel damage in the field increases the availability of vehicles and means large savings. The entire assignment, including brake testing, is carried out in less than four hours, and the wagon/train can be put back into service again immediately afterwards.
