Euromaint has been awarded the assignment to modernise eight 10 MVA train converters for Jernbaneverket Bane Energi, Norway. The modernisation means that the costs for the maintenance of the converters are reduced and their availability is increased.

Euromaint is responsible for everything from the refurbishment of the exciters to adapting the converters' control equipment and its onsite commissioning. The converters are being refurbished and they will be brushless.

The actions that are being taken will lead to lower requirements for maintenance in the converter stations while at the same time the overhaul intervals can be lengthened. In turn, this leads to reduced maintenance costs and increased availability of the converters.

"We have been very pleased with previous work that Euromaint has performed for us, including overhaul and inspections of converters. We are pleased with the reference project and for this reason, we chose Euromaint Rail as supplier for this assignment," says Lars Kr. Bjørløw, Senior Purchaser at Jernbaneverket Bane Energi.

"This is an exciting and interesting assignment for us. A train converter of 10 MVA is the largest type of converter to be found in the Nordic countries. With this assignment, we further confirm our expertise," says Lelle Cryssanthander, Marketing Manager for the Components Business Area at Euromaint Rail.

The refurbishment will be carried out in Euromaint Rail's component workshop in Åmål.

The work will start at the beginning of 2012 and it is estimated that all of the converters will have been refurbished with the brushless design by the end of 2013.

Train converters in brief:
The converters for train operation feed the overhead line system with 16 2/3 Hz and 16.5 kV and they are strategically placed along the railway.
The exciter system for converters is used to feed the generator and the motor's rotor field windings with direct voltage/direct current.
