EuroMaint Rail has been commissioned by Stockholm Public Transport (SL) to refurbish the 101 railway carriages currently in service on the Roslagsbanan line. The assignment, which will run over 4 years, is estimated to be worth around SEK 400 million.

The assignment includes the external renovation of the carriages, installation of passenger information and video surveillance systems and technical measures to improve the operational reliability of the rolling stock. The fixtures in the carriages will be replaced and, internally, the carriages will be designed similar to the new commuter trains in Stockholm. In order to improve accessibility for disabled passengers, sections of the floor will be lowered to platform height in 32 of the carriages.

“We are very pleased that SL has entrusted us to modernise the carriages for Roslagsbanan. This is an incredibly extensive project that will enable us to contribute with our knowledge and experience right from the drawing board to completion of the carriages," says Sten Nilsson, business area manager at EuroMaint Rail.

Roslagsbanan is Sweden’s only narrow-gauge railway for scheduled traffic and the 101 carriages date from between 1988 and 1995. The task of refurbishing SL’s carriages for Roslagsbanan will be carried out at EuroMaint Rail’s refurbishment workshop in Malmö.

The assignment will start at the beginning of 2011 and the project will run until the end of 2014.
