EuroMaint Rail has signed an agreement concerning the acquisition of Skandiatransports maintenance workshop for rolling stock in Landskrona, Sweden.
At the workshop, maintenance and overhauls are carried out on all types of rolling stock for freight transport, such as freight and tank cars as well as railway cars for vehicle transport. The workshop is currently the only Swedish maintenance workshop with German VPI-certification and its customers are all Swedish and international operators within rail freight transportation.
“The workshop has a strong reputation and maintains high class technology. The acquisition represents an important strengthening of EuroMaint Rail's offering to the Swedish and international freight transport market. EuroMaint Rail's geographical coverage, combined with the recognised certifications and technical experience we have now added will help us to convince the major, international players to put more of their most demanding maintenance in Sweden”, says Mats Önner, CEO for EuroMaint Rail.
EuroMaint Rail is now Sweden's second largest maintenance company in the freight segment and dominates the market in northern Sweden. The acquisition of Skandiatransport's maintenance workshop in Landskrona strengthens EuroMaint Rail's market presence in southern Sweden.
"The maintenance of rolling stock for freight transport is inherently pan-european. Having a nationwide network of technically qualified maintenance workshops is important for us in our continuing journey into Europe”, says Mats Önner.
The business, currently employing 25 people with a turnover of SEK 23 m, will transfer over to EuroMaint Rail on 1 January 2010.
EuroMaint Rail acquires the maintenance workshop from AB Skandiatransport, which is owned by the Finnish asset management company CapMan. Skandiatransport is one of Sweden’s largest providers of services involving transportation, storage and conversion of vehicles. The divestment of the maintenance workshop for rolling stock in Landskrona is a step in Skandiatransport’s aim to focus on its core business within logistics services to the automotive industry.
